Firepower Amateur Radio Station GB150VC Home
This site contains photographs of the operation of the station, operational during June 2006.
The special amateur radio call sign GB150VC was open in the Royal Artillery Firepower Museum, Royal Arsenal, Woolwich for 28 days from 1st to 28th June.
The museum radio station was operational daily with a special amateur radio call sign of GB150VC to commemorate the inauguration of the Victoria Cross (VC). This was a really special event authorised by Ofcom – unusual in itself and something that attracted radio amateurs from around the world. A special “eyeball” contact card, known as a qsl card, is still available for visitors, so come in and find out what it was all about.
QSL Cards are in the course of being sent out to all 10,000 contacts made during the period of operation. We will reply 100% to every card received by us. In the event of any problems please email us direct at firepowergb150vc@zoomshare.com.
Details of GB150VC and special award certificates are now available on www.cvrs.org
Details and photographs of previous radio events in February April and October 2006 may be found at www.firepowervintageradio.zoomshare.com
Visitors, young or old, will be welcome to take part in operating the museum radio on any day the museum is open. Live, on air, contacts are anticipated throughout the world, although this will depend on atmospheric conditions at the time. The youngest operator we have had on air was 3 years old, while the oldest, we are not quite able to establish.
Some special evening operation is planned especially to get contacts in the USA, Canada, and the Caribbean region, and who knows, may be Australia and New Zealand.
Operation was mainly 18, 14 and 7MHz SSB and CW. There was also a VHF operation on 6m (50.095 and 50. 153) and 2m.
